01/14/2012 - Honolulu, HI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Matt Every fired a six-under 64 Friday to grab a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Every, who is starting his second season on the PGA Tour, completed 36 holes at 10-under-par 130.
Two years ago, Every was a rookie on the PGA Tour when he was arrested in a marijuana related incident. The charges were eventually dropped, but he was suspended by the tour for three months. He also missed six weeks that season due to a broken finger.
"I honestly kind of feel like a rookie out here this year, because I was doing just fine until I got to Hilton Head," Every said of where he broke his finger in 2010. "I (missed) six weeks there, then I get back and I was out for like two weeks, then got in trouble, there's three months. I still almost kept my status and played half the tournaments that everybody else played."
Every's lone professional win was at the 2009 Nationwide Tour Championship. This is second time he will sleep on a lead on the PGA Tour. Every was the first-round leader at the 2010 Greenbrier Classic.
David Hearn (66) and Carl Pettersson (67) are tied for second place at minus- eight. Brendon de Jonge fired the low round of the week with his eight-under 62. He soared into a share of fourth place at seven-under 133. He was joined there by Pat Perez and Doug La Belle II, who both shot 67 on Friday.
PGA Champion Keegan Bradley (67) and Sean O'Hair (67) in round two, are among 10 players tied for seventh at six-under-par 134.
Every had a kick-in birdie on the par-four 12th. He parred the other eight holes on his opening nine at Waialae Country Club.
The 28-year-old started to make his move up the leaderboard with a 24-foot birdie putt on the par-four third. He made it two in a row with a short birdie effort on the fourth.
Every parred two in a row before catching fire at the end of his round. He drained a 22-footer for birdie on No. 7. Every converted a 15-foot birdie chance at eight, then closed with a two-putt birdie at the ninth, his last.
"I just didn't make many mistakes and made some putts, hit some good irons, just kind of normal stuff," Every said.
He went on to add, "I'm not saying I'm going to be on top of the leaderboard every week, but it's not a surprise to me. I know that I can, you know? It's only two rounds, though, so it's not that big a deal."
Every has just one career top-10 finish, a share of eighth at the 2010 Phoenix Open, in 29 previous PGA Tour starts.
Hearn rebounded from bogeys on two and three to shoot 66. He did so with three birdies in a four-hole span from the fifth. He made the turn at minus-seven after making eagle on the par-five ninth. Hearn parred his next eight holes before closing with a birdie at the last.
Pettersson, a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, had a birdie and a bogey on the back nine, his opening nine Friday. Around the turn, Pettersson had birdies on four and five. He finished his round with a birdie at the ninth to share second place.
"I started on the back nine. I played really solid on the back nine," said Pettersson. "Could have made a few more, missed a couple of short ones. Then I made a few longish putts for birdies on four and five and a nice save on eight. It was a solid round."
NOTES: First-round leader Graham DeLaet struggled to two-over 72, which dropped him into a share of 17th at minus-five. He was joined there by among others last week's winner Steve Stricker (69)...The cut line fell at one- under-par 139 with 80 players advancing to the weekend...Among those that missed the cut were 2011 champion Mark Wilson, 2006 winner David Toms, Rocco Mediate, Ryo Ishikawa and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III.

Many “experts” predicted the Panthers to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, of course they could not even make the playoffs in an extremely weak NFC. The Saints definitely made up for the disappointing seasons of their NFC South brethren by exploding out of no where en route to the NFC Championship game. For the avid NFL gambler, it is imperative to pay attention to the NFL draft. Although free agency gets a ton of publicity, the successful franchises build their teams around the draft.
1. New Orleans Saints
Who would have thought this time last year that the Saints would be the favorites to win the NFC South for the 2007 campaign? New Orleans is loaded with firepower on the offensive side of the ball but with the exodus of Joe Horn they will most likely look to draft a WR on Day 1. Despite having the NFL’s 3rd ranked pass defense last season, the Saints will most likely upgrade their CB’s with one of their first two picks. Other possibilities for the Saints will be TE and DT. Because of where they will be selecting (27th), the Saints could go the “best available player” route which could net a LB.

2. Carolina Panthers
Carolina was one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL last season. With the signing of David Carr, expect the very first quarterback controversy to come out of Carolina if Jake Delhomme doesn’t rebound quickly from an average 2007 season. With veteran safety Mike Minter getting up there in age, they will look to draft a safety on Day 1 but probably not in the first round. LB is another need with the loss of Chris Draft to go along with Dan Morgan’s concussion problems. If TE Greg Olsen is still on the board, he might be too good to pass up despite their needs on the defensive side of the ball.

3. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons were another NFC South team to have a disappointing 2007 season. The Falcons were able to improve their draft position with the trade of coveted backup QB Matt Schaub. High on the list of Day 1 needs will be a defensive end to replace Patrick Kerney and a hard hitting safety since Lawyer Milloy is nearing the end of his career. With an additional 2nd round pick, the Falcons could attempt to trade up to acquire local product WR Calvin Johnson.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Age really caught up to the Bucs last season. The Bucs still have plenty of household names on defense in Ronde Barber, Simeon Rice and Derrick Brooks but the one thing those three have in common is unfortunately age. It is imperative for the Bucs to get much younger, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Despite having bigger needs on the defensive side of the ball, WR Calvin Johnson is the most likely pick if he is still available when the Bucs pick at the four spot. This would suit Bucs’ faithful just fine as Johnson is widely considered the top talent in the draft and it is a position of need for the Bucs.

Mayweather picked to beat De La Hoya
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and his rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. arrived at the MGM Grand here Wednesday amid the pomp and pandemonium befitting two of the biggest stars in the sport who are about to duke it out for the WBC super welterweight crown this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
As of Wednesday, MySportsbook.com closed its book with Mayweather a favorite to defeat De La Hoya at -170 (a $100 bet wins $70), while De La Hoya is a +140 underdog (a $100 bet wins $140).
Mayweather arrived at about 11:30 a.m. on a big truck with his face and a big "World's Best Pound-for-Pound" sign scribbled across the vehicle. He was accompanied by his entourage made up of rappers and his training team.
A crowd of close to 3,000 eager fans packed the MGM Grand lobby, with their cameras in tow, all trying to vie for position to get a good angle at Mayweather, who is acknowledged as the world's best fighter pound-for-pound.
Eric Gomez, Golden Boy Promotions vice-president, described the fan turnout as "amazing" and swore he had never seen anything quite like this event.
"The crowd was fantastic. Everybody was just too eager to see the two fighters," said ALA manager Michael Aldeguer, who was among those who waited at the lobby together with his ward Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and AJ Banal.
De La Hoya made his own grand entrance at the hotel lobby at around 12:30 p.m. accompanied by GBP chief executive officer Richard Schaefer and trainer Freddie Roach.
The same group of fans who trooped to see Mayweather also lingered around to get a close look at De La Hoya, who has been secretly working out at a Las Vegas gym for days after arriving from his main training camp in Puerto Rico.
The golden boy then took part in a closed-door afternoon workout with Bautista and Banal. The two, along with Aldeguer and wife Christine, as well as an HBO crew were the only ones allowed inside the gym.
De La Hoya and Mayweather take part in today's final press conference before the official weigh-in this Friday.
Ring Magazine, the acknowledged bible of boxing, reported in its June 2007 issue that 12 out of 20 boxing experts it interviewed have favored Mayweather to defeat De la Hoya, with only 8 favoring the latter.
But Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao said in a recent interview with The Freeman's Emmanuel Villaruel that De La Hoya will win by unanimous decision over Mayweather.
